How to migrate LV 5 vi to LV8.5 - do I need to install V6, V7...

Hi
Have several large app's last worked on in LV5.1.1; these apps need updating to LV8+ now.  Will I have to install LV6 in a machine, migrate the applications, install LV8, migrate the applications, install 8.0, migrate the applications, and then install 8.5 to finish the process.  My bet is, there will be a large amount of effort involved.

Thanks

I think Labview 8.2 can open Labview 5 vis. So you only need one more version....

So If I were to purchase a new license at this point, how would I get a copy of 8.2 installed?  Or does NI supply an upgrade tool for this purpose?  We have been several years away from this job, and are now returning to it to upgrade both the environment, and the tools.

Hi Blair,

why not just call your local NI representative/sales manager? They will know the answer for sure!

Hi Blair,

Here is a link with a table that explains what versions of labview you can convert your VIs to:

All you have to do is install any version newer than 5.1 and earlier than 8.5, followed by your 8.5 installation.

Let me know if you have any issues.

How many VIs are you converting? If it is only a few I can convert them for you and then you can save yourself the installation of an intermediate version.

Thanks alot.  Quantity of VIs to be converted is in excess of 1000, but the real issue is that the code is proprietary.

Thanks for the table.  Looks like we need to locate an interim version, and get our hands on the most recent LabVIEW as well.

Well, the text in the KB article is good, but the images don't come through no matter what I do, including the table.
Looks like we'll be parasitic on another project to get everything up to 6.x, then we'll be okay.  Any advice out there - are we best to actually test the application

Here is the graph:

I'm working on fixing the image in the knowledgebase.

You will still need an intermediate version to get to 8.5. If you just purchased 8.5 you can check ni.com/src for earlier versions that you can use to convert VIs.

Mark,

Your picture does not show up in the message.  Is it pointing to:

which we don't have access to.

Hmm.  Posting coherent questions would help, wouldn't it?  I meant to ask, if I convert the application to LV6.1 then 8.5, should we test and try the LV6.1 version, or can we make the two step jump before revalidating the software?  I realize this may be asking too much, but experienced feedback could save us a lot of time and effort, either way.

Thanks
