I SOLVED it.
I must be honest, I'm not 100% sure how I did it, as that I really am not 100% clear on what the references part is and how it works...but I looked at the examples and played a bit...and came up with this vi.
In the example, I'm only disabling the first LED on the left when clicked...in my real app, I'm disabling each on both the right and left side as they are clicked, and the event for the 'Enable LEDs' button, cycles through, and re-enables them all.
Thank you again for all the help and suggestions, you got me through solving this I think....and I see a few more topics I need to go back and study in depth!!
