I'd like to purchase an update to my LabVIEW 2009 Student Edition and get the LabVIEW 2013 Student Edition. Do I need to remove the 2009 before I make the purchase?, or will the update/upgrade replace the old with the new?

It should install alongside the old version.  No need to uninstall.

If you are a student, you can get the 2013 version for free, simply apply here for an activation code.

(The code is valid for 6 months, and can be renewed as long as you are a student.)
