Did you mean:

I get a blue screen of death when MAX launches.

The error code is 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80546AB5, 0xB56E5B10, 0x00000000).  The only other thing it tells me to check is disk space, but I have over 200GB free.  Last week, I was able to use MAX without a problem, and I have not changed any hardware since then.

A 0x0000008E error is usually caused by something hardware-related, like bad hardware or a bad/corrupted device driver. It's also been known to be caused by a rootkit, but that's pretty rare. The fact that you say it only does this when you launch MAX leads me to suspect corrupted device drivers. What device drivers have you installed? You said you have not changed hardware - what about software?

Execute a scan with the AVG Anti-Rootkit and update your service pack with the latest version

Let me know what happens.
