Hi,

I've been using the attached vi to show the Data Link Properties dialog box, and to create a connection string for a SQL Server database, but I found a strange thing:

  • after having selected "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server", in "Connection" tab there is a ring that should be populated with all the server names on the network

but trying on different PCs in the same domain, this list is different!!!!

Some of the SQL server names are missing when this simple vi runs on some PCs.

But if I try pinging these machines, I get an echo, so the machines are OK.

And if I manually fill in server name, user name, password and DB name, when I press "Test connection" it returns OK.

I've also noticed that on the same PC, the list is different if I connect to the domain via a network cable or via a wireless network...

Could someone explain this behavior?

Hello Vix,

I made a test. I tested all 8 PC's , all with LabVIEW 2011 and Windows 7 and all of them had the same list.

Do the systems that you checked have the same operating system and LabVIEW version?

Probably when you change from cable to wireless network the possible servers that your system finds are more or less different.

I tried different systems, some with Windows 7, some with Windows XP.

On a PC with Windows XP, the list is different if an USB to Ethernet adapter is connected or not...
