Where did you download your MAX? What type of device would you like to connect to?

I downloaded the 30-day trial of LabVIEW, and MAX appeared. Maybe I got MAX lite. 🙂

You can download this for MAX. This copy works with serial device.

You only install NI-Serial if you have a National Instrument serial interface product. The poster did not say anything about serial, so why are you telling them to install that software?
To poster: read this: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/D1F1D3FC80E4FFDF86256B410059DE31

I use serial device a lot, so I woudl install the NI-Serial. If you install the NI-Serial, it would give you the latest MAX, right? I believe that latest MAX is what he wants, and having serial is probably not a bad idea. Nevertheless, it was just a suggestion.

As I pointed out, NI-Serial is only required if you have a National Instruments Serial Interface product. If you have built-in serial ports then you do NOT need NI-Serial. MAX is installed with LabVIEW. You do NOT need to install NI-Serial, and to say "serial is probably not a bad idea" is simply ludicrous. Especially in light of the fact that we don't even know what devices and interfaces the user is trying to access.

Well, the quick answer to why you don't have a "Devices and Interfaces" entry is that you don't have any hardware drivers installed so MAX couldn't populate Devices and Interfaces. Once you install the hardware driver that you nee, this section will be added.

The same problem happened to me. I want to connect Tektronix 3054B to my PC via ethernet, and I have already installed the driver for this device according to the method on the webpage http://zone.ni.com/wv/app/doc/p/id/wv-1668. But I still cannot find the "Devices and Interfaces" item in MAX. Attched is the picture of the window.

Hey muhe889,
If you are connecting the device over ethernet, it should appear under Remote Systems, not My System. Check there and let me know if you still can't see it. Hope that helps!
