Input text to labview and after program runs export the text to excel

Hello,

What I am trying to do is allow the user to enter several things such as test number, operator name...etc into labview, then once the test is complete have that information exported to the excel sheet along with the data that is collected.  is this possible?

Also is it possible to create a drop down menu within Labview to have several stored entries with preconfigured specifications for the test i.e. number of cycles to test...
so the user selects the part number from the drop down and it auto-populates the other inputs for the test

My knowledge of labview is limited but i am learning, so please consider that in your replies.

Thank you very much

Hi mrrcx,

yes, all that is possible.

You should use string inputs and the WriteToSpreadsheetFile function for your first question.

Use menu rings and case structures for the second part...

Thank you for that quick reply!

Do I use the string indicator or the string control for that?  I was able to find the write to spreadsheet icon.  will that take everything from the Vi and put it into excel?

Do you know of a nice tutorial on the menu rings and case structures?

Thanks again

You use a control.

The Write to Spreadsheet creates a text file. A tab or comma separated file is easily imported into Excel.

Refer to any one of several on-line tutorials and the help file.

Hi Mrrcx,

Thank you for contacting National Instruments Discussion Forums. Attached you will find links to three different NI Knowledge Base articles explaining topics that you are interested in. Also, you can always find example VIs using the NI Example Finder, which can be accessed through the LabVIEW "Help" menu by selecting "Find Examples." There is a built in browser, or you can use the search feature to search by keyword.

Write to Spreadsheet:

Rings:

Case Structures:

I hope that helps!
