You don't have to rename anything. The installer will create a "LabVIEW 7" inside the National Instruments directory so it won't over-write any thing. I have 6.1 and 7 installed together and haven't had any problems.

Mike is right. I also have both installed and don't seem to have any problems. It will make a LabVIEW 7.0 folder so don't worry about the 6.1. However, make sure you are aware of any device drivers you currently have and any you are installing with LabVIEW 7.0. You don't want multiple versions on the same machine. Enjoy 7.0!

There are a lot of stuff inside the National Instruments directory besides LabVIEW
6.1, such as: DataSocket, MAX, NI-488.2, NI Spy, NI-DAQ, etc.. Are you sure those
files will not be messed up ?

The best way is to rename the National Instruments directory.

That's all stuff that you want updated and replaced by the new versions that come with LabVIEW 7. I suspect that the update of the new drivers would fail if the installer can't find the folders where the old drivers are. I also think that you're liable to have problems running the older version of LabVIEW. The best way in my experience, has been to leave the folder names alone.
