Installing driver for Spartan FPGA advice

Hello everyone,

I am working with the Spartan 3E FPGA through LabView. Or at least I want to.

My FPGA talked nicely to LabView on the previous computer I was using. Now that I've moved to a different office and a different computer (running windows 7, 64 bit) I can't for the life of me seem to get it to work. I have LabView 2010 installed and running, and I've downloaded the student/academic package LabView support for the Xlinix Spartan FPGA from the National Instruments website. The problem I keep running into is that Windows turns up an error saying that it can't install the driver for the the connected FPGA ( I'm talking to it through USB). I've tried unistalling and re-installing the LabView support, as well as several restarts, including unistalling and reinstalling labview itself.

Has anyone run into this problem? There just must be some piece of the software that I am missing?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi Lelle,

The issue here is that the driver is not compatable with x64 based systems. The only way to program this device is from a 32-bit operating system. If you would like a more detailed explanation of why this is, please check out this link.

Cheers!
