The Snippets

Should change the standrd operating proceedure for the forum when posting solutions LV 2009 and up!

Drag image onto your diagram and they run!

From the "Software Engineering" section:

Subversion Improvements (.svn filtering)

Ooooohhhh.. what's this? what's this?  (I did not partake in the 2009 beta this time around.)

Implicit prallelism!

Old way

New

No longer do we have to split up arrays and pass to a bunch of prallel For loops.

For those that have not tried it, when running on a machine with a bunch of proccessors, breaking up large arrays across many For loop would share the load across all of the processors. BUt with this new feature LV will do it for us....

Plus...

I don't have to re-write my code for machines with even more cores!

Recursion!  Yes!  I have wanted this for more than 15 years.  BTW what is wrong with calling it LV9.0?  My first thought when I hear software with the year in the name is a certain OS company, and the associations aren't always good.

Time to start cleaning up a bunch of kluged VIs.

Currently watching the webcast.

Wasn't in the beta this time round.

Lots of interesting new features.  Cool.

Storing custom data in png files MAY just get people to stop posting BMPs to the forums......  May.....

Probe Watch window is a real blessing!

But it only works with pictures generated using the "snippets" feature of LV right?

Pointers, we essentially have pointers.  How cool is that?  I'm going to need a few weeks to get my head around the implications of that change.  LVOOP with References.  Oh man, I can't wait.

Thanks NI, here's hoping for a relatively bug-free system...

Yes. When this was presented to the LabVIEW Champions, it was mentioned that one of those image file formats (png or jpg ?) had some extra functionality built-in that allows NI to include the source code inside the image. So they will still work with browser and can be dragged into a VI BD.

So,if we are posting examples in LV 2009 or better, the Snippet will serve mulitple needs. We can post images AND the code at the same time.

PS: Did the in-place stuff make the cut? Those changes are appealing to the techno-weenies (like myself) but hardly rate marketing material.

Thanks Shane! I did not see mention of the in-place functions. Yup, they "read" like "here is a buffer, work in it" and you can say it anywhere you want!

Looks interesting!  Now I have to figure out which one of my clients to convince to use it first.
