Invalid printer name error (-41002)

While I use 'Print Report.vi with new HP Deskjet 5443 printer (connected to the computer by USB and configured as a deafault) I get Invalid printer name error (-41002). 
The application is working properly with other printers.
The "HP Deskjet 5400 Series" name appears in the printers list that was found by "Get Printers list.vi".
The printer is printing properly with Word, Excel and other applications.
I am working with Labview v8.00.

Hi Alex,

I have found a corrective action request in our R&D database that addresses this very error occurring, with HP-5940(USB) printers. I plan to add your feedback that it is happening for you as well with the HP 5443.

Have you tried going to the printers entry in the control panel, getting the printer name there, and then entering that as a string constant into Print Report.vi ? Also, you can try leaving the input terminal empty and it should use the default printer.

Let me know if either of these works for you.

Hi Sam

I tried to set the HP5443 printer name into Print Report.vi and it did not work, then I set HP5443 printer as default printer and  left the printer name input into Print Report.vi empty and get the same results.

After that I tried to print the front panel directly from Labview menu bar (File>Print). I followed the print steps ( the HP5443 printer was selected) finally the HP5443 printer print empty page instead of front panel. While I select another printer the front panel was printed properly.

Are there any other versions of this printer driver for the HP5443 that you could try using?

The printer driver is supplied with the printer. I have not other versions of this driver.

Is this problen exist with all HP deskJet USB printers?

Hi Alex,


From what I am seeing in the existing corrective action request, this is an issue with at least the HP-5940 printer (USB), but it seems to affect more than that. I will put this additional information into the CAR.

Meantime, you could try searching the internet for more up to date/other versions of the HP 5443 driver.

Hi Sam,

I tried different driver but the problem did not solved.

Please advice if there is a list of popular inkjet printes that works with the Labview 8.00.  If the list is not exist please give me name fo few popular inkjet printers so I will replace my HP DeskJet 5443 printer with printer that works with the Labview 8.00.

Hi Alex,

Unfortunately I am not in a position to recommend a specific printer to you, as we cannot possibly test the thousands of printers on the market available from the likes of Canon, Lexmark and HP.


The vast majority of printers do work just fine from LabVIEW - perhaps the community here has some suggestions for you?

Dear Mr. Sam

I would like to inform that the printer HP Officejet Pro K550 will show the same error. I would like to also ask you if there is or will be a patch or some kind of thing that may resolve this printer problem?
