Is it possible the give a name to a decoration object ?

Solved!

Hi everyone,

I would like to change the colours of some decoration squares (not too sure what the english word is for that but I am talking about the objects that are neither indicators nor commands and which are just used for decoration) on my front pannel. The problem I have already faced a year ago was that when I add a new decoration object, all the parameters that were linked to my provious objects are shifted... And this is very annoying when continously adding new objects...

Has this changed ? Is it possible to give a name to an object so that it doesn't get shifted...?

If there is no change, I will have to use the backgroung of a indicator but it won't look as good ..

Thanks a lot,

Regards,

Hi J-M,

Thanks for your post and your help. Looking at the comments at the end of the page, it seems a bit complicated for me to use since I need to be able to keep the same references when re opening my program...

So I guess there is no finished version of the kit...?

I didn't check, but according to what Ton wrote there, the current version does keep the reference. Just be sure not to have duplicate names for the decorations.

Hi Tst,

Thanks for your answer. I will try this solution then. However I am not too sure how to install this pack. There is no .exe ...? just .vis Do I have to put these files in a special folder?

Sorry for this simple question, could anyone help?

Thanks

There are other ways to grab references to decorations, but it won't be as robust as what's been described. Attached is one method I use. Decorations can have border colors which are different, yet visualy indistinguishable. You can use these unique border colors to acquire references. Another way to do it is by the size of the decoration, which works well if you want to manipulate one decoration.

These two VI's represent the border color method. Saved to 8.5. Run the one with the long filename, the other is a sub-vi.

It's a plugin for the JKI RC framework, so you have to install that first and then follow the instructions on Ton's page (and to install that, you need to install VIPM first). Personally, I think it's worth installing, because you can then also easily install a lot of useful OpenG VIs
