Is the PCI-RS485 card compatible with Labview RT on a ETS target?

I am evaluating Labview RT on an ETS target. We are bringing our target cards online, one at a time, in order to test their functionality.

We are having difficulty getting our PCI-RS485/2 card to work. I would assume that a serial card would be the easiest of tasks for RT on ETS to work, so I am also assuming that I am doing something wrong.

The card's product description states "LabVIEW Real-Time compatibility for deterministic control"

The series of cards are not on the official list of ETS proven cards. That's fine, we've used a few cards that haven't been officially tested.

I have Labview 7.1 (professional I think) and NI Serial 2.5.3 installed on the target. I inserted the card. There were no messages on the RT target regarding the existence of the card, nor is there anything on the Measurement and Automation Explorer. I have tried creating a new static serial port, however the MAX tells me that it cannot open a VISA session.

Can anyone assert or refute the compatibility?

If it is compatible, does anyone have any advice or links regarding the proper installation of the card?

I have already done searching on the FAQ / discussion board and haven't found any information, so I appeal to the discussion board.

Hello Daniel,

The PCI serial cards are not supported with LabVIEW RT for ETS targets and are not expected to work. We are looking into finding a way to add support for PCI serial devices in RT, but currently that support does not exist.

One possible workaround would be to use a NI ENET-485-X device. The visa resource name will not be COMx in this case. Instead, you will need to enter the long name of ASRL::::::INSTR as documented in the NI-VISA help.

I hope this helps. If you need to speak with your sales representative to resolve this issue, please follow this link. Have a great day.

Thank you for the response.

I am still confused as to why the product description page states that the card has "LabVIEW Real-Time compatibility for deterministic control"

http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=14691〈=US

What specific platform are they referring to? The card is a PCI card, so it is not for a PXI Chassis Solution? Are they referring to the RTX platform, or is there something else that I'm missing?

Thank you for your time,

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for noting the error on the product page. The RT compatibility is true for the PXI cards but not for the PCI cards. We will be updating this page as quickly as possible to correct this.
