Is there LabVIEW 2015 for Mac?

Solved!
Go to solution

We have a full license for LabVIEW 2015, and received the software on a USB Flash Drive.  I've used this successfully to install LabVIEW on my Windows PC, but am puzzled how to install LabVIEW on a Mac.  When we got LabVIEW on separate DVDs, there was a MAC DVD and a Linux DVD, but there's only the single Flash Drive.

I've searched through the Files and Folders on this Drive, looking for Mac and for Linux.  The only Mac I found was "MAComponents", which is a folder for Motion Assistant Components.  Similarly, the Linux references seemed to be mostly RIO- and LVRT-related.

I have called NI asking for help, but so far have not heard back.  I probably made a mistake in not making this a formal Service Request, but the system was down the day I called ...

A Web Search for a download for LabVIEW 2015 finds lots of Windows downloads, but, again, I have not (yet) found anything for Mac.  I'm sure I'm missing something (like "Just connect the Flash Drive to a Mac and it will "do the right thing") -- I confess that I have not (yet) tried the Experiment I just mentioned ...

They are two separate licenses. The Windows license has never included a distribution for the Mac. As far as I know, there has never been an evaluation download for the Mac, either.

We actually have an Academic Site License, which has (up until LV 2015) always included a set of Windows DVDs, a Mac (single) DVD, and a Linux DVD.  As I recall, there may have also been Mac/Linux-specific Device Driver DVDs, but I'm a bit fuzzy on that (most of the work here is done on PCs ...).

While I've never installed LabVIEW on a Mac, from what I've heard there isn't a licensing scheme for Mac, so there isn't an evaluation, just a full version.  So to get LabVIEW for Mac you need to contact NI and they will send you a copy.  It isn't clear to me if that copy is somehow connected to your license.

There's the 2015 evaluation for Mac.  I'm trying to find a readme for it.  But, I'd expect it's only tested on Yosemite and earlier

Thanks.  NI just said they will ship us the DVDs for Mac and Linux (the "non"-evaluation versions).  Meanwhile, my colleague can get started with his Mac ...  I guess when the Academic Distribution Kit went from a half-dozen DVDs in a DVD case to a single USB key, they "forgot" to include the separate Mac and Intel images ...

Bob,

I have been away from the academic field for a few years now, but the people who put together the site license packages have long been totally ignorant of the differences between the Windows versions and the versions for other supported platforms.  One key factor is that the Mac and (I think) Linux versions do not use the License Manager or  something similar. Thus, there are no download versions available and the evaluation versions cannot be updated - they must be replaced.

There is also a good chance that drivers like DAQmx Base may not be included on the media you receive. Fortunately, those can be downloaded.

By the way, both DAQmx Base and VISA will run under the 64-bit version of LV2015 on the Mac.

Good to know, Lynn.  My user specifically inquired about LV64 on his Mac ...  Something about acquiring ultrasound images and doing lots of FFTs ...
