Is there a limit for case structures?

I too was able, with your VI, crash LV v7.0 on my system. I followed Ben's suggestion and removed the null string and was able to then set/clear the case-insensitive matching, even after I later re-added the null string. Whenever I have reported problems of this nature to NI they have always attributed them to a "corrupt VI" because, while they have been able to reproduce them with the VI I have provided, they cannot cause it to happen with a VI built up from scratch. Blame it on the Gremlins!

This was reported to NI support under service req # 669107 in the hopes that we will NOT see this issue in the next release of LV.

Here is the same VI, stripped down with the minimum required to show the problem. Some changes to the case structure will "fix" the problem such as deleting the "copy this state" case.

Thanks to everyone who has investigated this error. I was able to reproduce the error on my computer. I have submitted an error report to NI R&D concerning this issue.
