I think you can, but it won't help you. If I remember correctly, someone I know tried ordering Measurement Studio online and when he got to the last page he found out that it will still cost him the local price.

Howdy,

It seems to me its not a matter of NI's price, but of the current exchange rate. According to Google today,

1 U.S. dollar = 0.693866223 Euros

So, the problem is really the devaluation of the dollar. I don't think anyone at NI has anything to do with that. 😉

Wait... check better! 4099 $, according to a change rate of

1 U.S. dollar = 0.693866223 Euros

should give 2844,157648077 euros, NOT 4049!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's 1204 euros MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why?

Hey, it's not NI's fault that the Euro has become so strong and the Dollar so weak! 😄 It does probably not make a lot of sense to adapt a system where the list price changes daily with the exchange rate. It can go both ways.

The cost of operating a brach in a foreign country depends on the local economy. Most likely, NI Italy pays their employees in Euros and not in Dollars or they would not be very happy. 😉

Why don't you all come over for some US vacation! It's cheap here (for you Europeans only!). 😄

Look me up and I'll fire up the BBQ. 🙂

The reason it would get to be more is because when they set the price, the euro was not as strong and the dollar was a lot stronger.

So if the euro gets to be worth more, the price stays the same and suddenly BAM you are paying more than the americans, take into account that the US dollar is also dropping significantly, and that makes the euro seem even higher in comparison, further inflating the price.

You are the victim of your own strong economy!

Now, stop joking!

What I'd like to point out is that euro/dollar change is something strange....  it's easy to find speculations on it! And it's been a long time that Euro is stronger than dollar, while many products prices change really few, and slowly..... let us the possibility to buy on internet, for example, on these last months I turned to amaz*** books rather than local dealer, because the change benefit overcomes the shipping augments! This is quite odd........

Of course, what you say about NI italy representative cost is true, and NI Italy people are really clever, so I don't mind too much if this price increase is absorbed by local representative....

Have a good All Saint's day!

my 4 Euro (5.75$):

1) europe has what is called VAT (added value tax. not that there is any added value 🙂 ). so add around 20% on the US price. the sale tax used locally in the US is generally not listed.
2) holding staff in Europe cost money in Euro, not in $.
3) when you order they generally directly give you 10% discount (in Austria at least)
4) traditionally, virtually any consumer good has been more expensive in Euro than in $. the fact that Euro is now much stronger than $ has very little impact.

Just to clarify on VAT ....
Effectively a business does not pay VAT, TVA or whatever normally to try to ensure an even tax regime against the rest of the world business. It is usually calimed back (there are rules on all this which are outside the scope of this discussion).

As far as employee costs are concerned, more often than not European equivalent employees are more efficient and often more productive than competing economies so I personally reject the employe cost issue. French employees are some of the most efficent in the world, the UK is the sweat house of the world as the 53d state, I could go on....

I was told today that unless I order over 100000€ I dont get any discount for my pifling little10000€ order.

Studies held in the UK show that only certain items like CD's are more expensive than in the US (of course this is why people are downloading).

Also NI make most of thier hardware in Hungary and China.... look at your hardware. Now how do you figure that works.

I have a cunning plan... Baldrick (Black Adder) { http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldrick }
(Don't forget warranty differences, certification requirements and import tax).
