K type thermocouple with SCXI-1120, limited temp range

I'm using the DAQ assistant in Labview 7.1 to try to set up a k-type thermocouple with my SCXI-1120 module.

When I set up the analogue input as a thermocouple, the input temperature range defaults to 0 - 100 deg C. If I change the temperature input range to what I require (i.e. 0 - 500 deg C), I get an error - 200077 when I try to run a test. Error - 200077 says that Requested value is not a supported value for this property.

Does this mean I cannot use the thermocouple option on the DAQ assistant and have to use the thermocouple as a voltage input?

The problem is probably the gain setting for the 1120.  Be default, MAX sets the gain to 1000 -- this would put the type K TC input voltage beyond the input range of the 1120.  Without getting out some ref material, I can't tell you what the equivalent voltage is for a type K TC, but you want to set the gain in MAX and the jumper on the 1120 for the value that will optimize your range and resolution.

I tried a simulated channel in MAX for a 1120.  I initially received the same error.  I changed the gain and MAX accepted the 500°C value.
