Hi,
I just built a really small test application that is talking to a serial device in LabVEIW 8.01. Nothing special. Now I wanted to email this app to my hardware partner.
Building an installer was easy, but the size was SHOCKING! The installer ended up being 70MB big.
I searched the advanced options hoping to find options to disable some stuff (like in LV 7.1) I couldn't even find the option "include serial support" (is that included by default or do I need to install VISA as well?).
Am I missing something here? Is there no way to build a tiny little app without carrying tons of functions with me?
I converted my app to LV7.1. Here the installer (with serial port support enabled) came down to 9 MB.
I would like to know if I'm the only person in this world who has a problem with the ever growing size of LV-applications. I mean, don't you guys sometimes send applications by mail? And please don't give me this "but if you already have the LV-RTE installed, you only need..."-stuff.
I know this is not my first post concerning distribution sizes. NIDaqmx is the same. One of my clients had a harddisk crash and didn't have his CDs handy. I had to tell him that he needed to download 450MB for the driver only. He was not amused. Installing this on a slower machine is more than pain.
Please consider making LV and the drivers more modular. I have to sell this stuff ...
