LabVIEW 2014 does not exit properly

Does anyone have issues with LabVIEW 2014 not exiting properly?

I close LabVIEW and the splash browser remains open. I have to end the process tree using task manager for the program to actually close.

I am referring to the development environment, not a compiled application.

The issue is most prevalent in 32 bit, but I think I have seen it in 64 also, and I am not sure it's unique to 2014 that is what I use the most.

Anyone ever see this, and know how I can correct it?

I've never used LV 2014, but I've never seen this issue.

What do you mean by "splash browser" ?

The splash window comes up ONCE when you first launch LabVIEW (without a VI or Project). There is no browsing in it - it just has the LabVIEW logo, your serial number, and symbols for the options you have loaded (RT, FPGA, etc.).

It goes away automatically when the UNTITLED VI comes up.  there is no interacting with it.

If you close the untitled VI (or anytime you have no projects and no VIs open), you get the PROJECT browser - choose a recent project or create one.  That window has an ordinary CLOSE button for me (and always has).

So, which one is failing for you?

So you attempt to close the splash screen and it doesn't want to close?  Is there a "busy" icon when mousing over it?  How long did you wait for it to close?  Sometimes LabVIEW takes a while to clean things up.  (And hopefully you aren't slowly corrupting your VIs by closing LV before it's done cleaning up after itself.)

OP is probably referring to the "Getting Started" window.

Sorry, I am referring to the window where you can select a project to open, that opens after you close a project.

What I see, generally speaking, is that if I close the Window, the program remains open for an extended period of time. It appears in the task bar.

I haven't timed it or looked at icons, but I believe it remains open pretty much indefinitely. Because I often notice it's still open, even though I had closed it, when doing something else.

Try this test (assuming you're on Windows):

1... start with all LabVIEW things closed

2... Start LabVIEW.exe from the START MENU, or find the EXE and run it (without a project).

3... The SPLASH screen should open.

4... About 2 sec later, the UNTITLED VI should open.

5... Close the UNTITLED VI

6... The Project browser should open.

7... CTL-ALT-DEL  and start the task manager

8... Look at the PERFORMANCE tab on the task manager.  You should see CPU Usage and MEMORY usage.

9... Go to the PROJECT BROWSER window and CLOSE it.

For me, it's a minuscule blip on the CPU, and the memory drops a bit.  The icon is gone in about two seconds.

What happens in your case?

Hi, CMB (may I call you that?):

I think opening untitled.vi is a non-standard option: "Skip Getting Started window on launch".  It was first in LV 2012, I want to say?

Ugh, I meant "mouse cursor", not "icon".  Sorry!

I tried something very similar to this and LabVIEW closed properly.

I launched the program, it started with a blank VI then I closed the VI and closed the file browser program. LabVIEW closed in a few seconds.

The problem is this is an intermittent thing. I am not sure it isn't related to the projects I am working on...

I don't have any set data collected, but I will make notes going forward. I do not think that it's just one project.
