We use LabVIEW 7.1 at work. Now I would like to have LabVIEW at home too, but the same version, so I looked out for a LabVIEW 7.1 student version or a book that comes with a CD ROM, but all the books I find are with LabVIEW 8 Student versions.
Where can I get a version of LabVIEW 7.1?
If I buy 7.0 or 8.something instead, are they compatible with 7.1 VIs?
I thought of something like this: http://www.amazon.de/LabVIEW-für-Studenten-Rahman-Jamal/dp/3827371546/ref=pd_ts_b_14?ie=UTF8&s=books

LabVIEW 7.1 is long obsolete and I don't think you can find it anywhere except perhaps on ebay. Since the LabVIEW license allows you to install it at home, all you need to do is get the installation CDs at work. Since you are not a student, you would not be entitled to buy the student version in the first place.
You cannot open 7.1 VIs in 7.0 and if you got a shipping version of LabVIEW (i.e. 8.2 or 2009), you could open 7.1 VIs but of course you cannot save what you do to version 7.1.

If you want to use LabVIEW with Lego Mindstorms you can get a free copy of 7.1 here. ONLY if you're going to use it only for Lego...
"This requested copy of LabVIEW may only be used for software development with LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT. Other generic, professional, or commercial use is strictly prohibited."
If you want LabVIEW at home simply to learn the language, Lego Mindstorms is a great platform and you'll be able to learn an awful lot while having a ton of fun. My kids and I received a licence through this mechanism.

Considering the license agreement, you don't have any other ethical choice.
