Aha!  Here at the University, we have the Enterprise edition that includes the Update settings that I described.  Sorry if I misled anyone -- I didn't realize it, myself, until I read Eric1977's Reply ...

It was indeed Windows auto update that was configured at 3:00 A.M

I deactivated auto-update & now it is OK........

Glad that worked for you. If you ever have some downtime, it may be wise to shut down your VI and install any updates Windows finds and then restart your VI. That way, your PC stays up-to-date.
