LabVIEW book

Hello all!

I've been searching through the forum trying to find a good book recomendation but I think I got a little confused... 😛

What I'm looking for is a book that covers LabVIEW programming, with good examples and if possible in the most interesting way.

This book is to be recommended to Physics students, at the university level, for an Instrumentation course they will have.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards!

Hello,

I learnt LabVIEW with french book "LabVIEW Programmation et Application".

I think it is a very good book, very clear, teaching you LabVIEW step by step.

What I usually do is go to Amazon.com and then just type in Labview, lots of books show up and you can even glimpse inside to see how they are put together. NI also puts out programming books, but they are bit dryer reading.

Hi!
To begin coding in LabView, a really good book is "LabView User Manual", from National Instruments.  There you can find basics of LabView, even if the document doesn't contain newer techniques.  I've found this link.

LabView for everyone, I've heard about, and can be a good choice (but I'm basing on some colleague's opinion, not mine!).

LabView style book and Labview advanced programming techniques are quite good as a further step.

More detailed list on amazon (or your preferred online bookseller...): just search for "LabView", and you'll get some specific books ( Digital signal processing in LabView is an interesting one, but maybe it's for electronic engineers, rather than physics, who will prefer Labview for data acquisition).

Anyway, the best (and cheapest!) choice is official "Labview user manual", for each other book you're considering, be sure it's for newer versions of LabView (newer than 7.0, say).

   Hope this can help!

PS.: of course, you'll find on NI site a plethora of useful application notes, tips, knowedge base's articles, that can be useful in focusing on a particular aspect.

My boss teaches a LabVIEW course at Cranegie Mellon University here in Pittsburgh PA (USA).

He use the "LabVIEW for Everyone" 3rd ed. by Travis and Kring.

I teach an electrical and computer engineering technology class at Purdue University in Fort Wayne, IN.  I used to use the Bishop book "Learning with LabVIEW x.x".  I have changed to use the LabVIEW for Everyone book mentioned in this thread.  It covers a lot more topics and has some really good examples.  It is highly recommended.

Just wanted to throw another hat in the ring for "LabVIEW for Everyone" by Travis and Kring.

I didn't start learning LabVIEW until a year ago and I can't imagine any other book getting me up to speed as fast as that book did.  It's the most interesting "learning to code" book I've come across. I've got my copy within reach at my desk.

Hello All,

I really appreciate the dialog here.  I have purchased the recommended book from Amazon.  It was 57.95 including shipping, new.  I am experienced with Labview and I just needed to have a reference available that I could improve my programming.

DPJ
