LabVIEW for PDA not working on WinCE 4.1

Greatings.
I have several LabVIEW for PDA 7.1 applications which work fine on a PDA ( Pocket PC WM2003 SE) Xscale 250 400MHz
But they refuse to work on our WinCE.net 4.1

The message that appears is:
{Cannot find "test" (or one of its components).
Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available.}

(test.exe - is the program)

I know that Pocket PC sits on top of CE,
so am I missing some libraries that CE 4.1 needs?

Can anyone help me with those?
I heard that in PDA 7.0 there were some extra file that helped.

Thank you

CE and PocketPC are not exactly the same.

In any case, I remember trying this myself and it didn't work, and if I remember correctly, at least 7.1 requires CE.net 4.2 as the minimum version. It's possible that 7.0 did not.

Can anyone else confirm that LV PDA 7.1 needs CE 4.2 and 7.0 might work with CE 4.1 ?

Thanks

Hi there,

I've had a look around for information about using LabVIEW PDA on Windows CE devices. All documentation suggests that Windows CE 4.2 or later is required, as in this tutorial

http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/C124104A8CE2BB3686256E12007CE377?opendocument

I've also looked at previous documentation for version 7.0 and this says that Win CE 4.2 or later is required also.  Unfortunately it appears that the PDA module will not work with CE 4.1

I hope this clarifies the reason for your error.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

Could you at least tell me the files (runtimes) that LV PDA relies on  the CE 4.2

Thank you

There is no LV-specific run-time for PDA applications. Every LV exe can work on a PDA with no need for an installation.

I don't know which system DLLs the exe requires, but I assume these are the standard ones coupled with the ones which support whatever feature your application requires (TCP\Bluetooth\CF card support etc.).

Is this what you meant by run-time?

Yes, something like that.

You can put this Dlls in the /windows directory and Pocket PC applications can run on a Ce 4.1, (different applications rely on different Dlls)
This is a trick used by many CE owners to run PPC apps.

Obviously the NI R&D should know on what dlls the Labview PDA exes rely on. Once they are transported the exes should run.

> The reason I really need this LV apps to work on my PDA is that it is a beautiful 640x480 PDA 4", and once we rewrite for the big screen, the apps would look beautiful.>

I never heard of anything like this, but then I'm not really into the PocketPC world. Even if this would would allow you to run the application, I have a hard time believing that you will manage to work with the hardware part of the device (if you need it), as at least those DLLs are probably OS and device specific.

You can try copying all the DLLs from the PPC directory to the CE device, but you will probably find some that are duplicate and you will need to decide what to do with them, and that's probably not a very pleasant situation. Is there any possibilty for you to burn a newer OS on the ROM of the CE device?

In any case, whether you try this on your own or get the LV R&D to reveal the secrets, I would be interested to know if you got this to work.

Hey all,

Right well I've escalated this up to the states and as of yet I have no news.

But you'll be the firs to know when I do. (I promise)

Hi there,

I have 2nd hand information that LabVIEW PDA will run on WinCE 4.1. This information originated from NI in Taiwan (I think).

I have a very interesting PAC (wincon 8739) from icpdas.com, that is a cheap alternative to cFP and PC based automation. However, this PAC only runs with WinCE 4.1, and the manufacturer either will not or can not give information as to if the OS can be upgraded.

Pls let me know if you have found out anything since you posted your message.
