Hi everybody,
For a project in LabVIEW me and a teammate had to come up with a project idea to learn to work with LabVIEW software, starting from almost 0% experience. (It can optionally be other software too but the main idea is to learn to work with "Data-acquisition-software").
We have a Kinect v2 available to use.
We know that another project-group made a paper-scissors-rock game using the kinect sensor and some gesture recognition. With that in mind but without a lot have done much research in advance we came with the idea of doing a bit of a different project... that looks similar but isn't... It seems.
Our idea is to do some air-writing: being able to write text with our hands in the air and than save this text in a document or something. We don't have a fixed/concrete idea yet about whether we'll do hand-tracking or object-tracking as well as if we'll really save it in a file or if we will "just" write the text to our screen/beamer to use it like teachers write on the blackboard. This video anyways shows an interesting output which we would like to create.
By far we both already did a lot of research but don't really know where to start as it appears to be 'slightly' more difficult than expected, also more difficult compared to the paper-scissors-rock-game. There is a lot to read about static gesture recognition but... not really about the realtime hand tracking / air writing which we would like to do, especially in LabVIEW.
So... What I'm wondering about is... Do you people in this forum have any opinions about our project idea? Do you think it's possible to make this kind of air-writing-project in LabVIEW or would you totaly recommend to use other software? and/or do you have any suggestions/links/tips/ideas which might be helpfull? (We're both Windows-users, if that matters).
The research that we already did, teached us that processing.org might be an interesting programming language to use for this but still... Even in processing.org we didn't really figure anything out yet. + We're still wondering about LabVIEW, so that's why i'm posting here....
(Sorry for the possibly many gramatical mistakes in my tekst, English is not my mother tongue :))
Thanks in advance to take your time to read this post and give us your point of view on this! 🙂
