LabVIEW won't start yet appears in the task manager

Unfortunately, as part of LabVIEW 2017, NI created the NI Package Manager which seems to somehow "take over" the installation of LabVIEW that was formerly managed by Windows and Control Panel.  They now "don't play well together", as I discovered when I tried to take LabVIEW 2017 off my Windows 10 PC that also had LabVIEW 2016 installed.  To get this machine back to a working configuration, with LabVIEW 2016 and without LabVIEW 2017, took 4-5 days of evening work (at my Day Job, I was using a PC with the 2016 configuration only -- only my Laptop had 2017 added on).

NI is, I believe, aware of (some of) these problems, including those involving NI Package Manager (not to be "confused" with the excellent VI Package Manager, which NI also offers to install, and which continues to work flawlessly).

Misery loves company and it somehow makes me feel better knowing that I'm not alone in this.

Obviously, I tried to make it short but I too saw strange things in the control panel add/remove applications like not seeing LabVIEW 2017 outside or in National Instruments Software even though it was running perfectly.

After removing and reinstalling suddenly LV 2017 did appear under National Instruments Software.

If you ask yourself how I was able to remove it if I don't see it... look at my previous post where I installed LV's uninstaller.

That reminds me that I tried installing DSC for LV 2017 after installing successfully LV 2017 64bit and it said: you need to first install LabVIEW 2017 before you can install DSC 2017 yet I guess that this was probably because DSC needs LV 32 bit. If it doesn't then it is another strange thing with this version.

I always hated NI's uninstaller. You can never know the dependencies between the modules and you remain with a big mess. It takes ages to install or uninstall and then VIPM doesn't allow you to sort out which packages have which license and it takes another day just to install them.

Anyhow, you spent 5 day, I'm still not done after 2 weeks mainly because I now need to buy a new LV license... Long story...

Wish me luck.
