LabView Run-time engine 6.1 fatal error on install in XP Pro

I downloaded an application which uses the LVRTE to decode audio signals and display them graphically. I then downloaded the latest (?) version of the RTE installer for Windows .../XP from the NI site and it shows a version number of 1.1.0.0 if I move the pointer over the file. When I try to install the RTE using this file, I get a small message box with the title "Fatal Error" and the text "Installation ended prematurely because of an error" and no other clues. I've disabled the antivirus s/w (Norton) and the firewall (Zonealarm). I've even searched through the registry to see if there are any entries with either "LabView" or "National Instruments" in them and found nothing.

I'm running a properly li
cenced (yes, I paid real money for it) version of XP Pro with all the latest patches installed.

Any clues as to how to get the thing to install would be gratefully received.

Thanks in anticipation

I'm not sure why the installer isn't working, but if you have another computer with the LVRTE installed, there's a workaround: zip the contents of Program Files\National Instruments\shared\LabVIEW Run-time\6.1, copy the zipfile to your XP machine, and extract it to the directory where your decoder application is installed.

I am not sure why you get the error either. I have XP pro and had no problems with the installation. You can contact NI support for information as to where the registry keys reside. I recommend downloading again to make sure the zip was not corrupted and contacting them.

It's OK now. I have a corrupt profile which (I think) is knocking out my ability to behave as an administrator with my normal login. Logged in as admin and managed to install it without hitch.

Next problem is now with the application that needs the run-time to execute. It says it can't find the 6.0 LVRTE and directs me to contact the app vendor. Must be because the app is looking for the 6.0 version and doesn't like the 6.1 that's installed. Ah well, c'est la vie.

Thanks

Jeremy,

thanks for the response. I've fixed the first problem. See my reply to unDees for the rest.

All I need now are MUCH longer days so I can deal with the trivia.....

The version of the RTE must match the version that the application was built with. All versions (including 6.0) of the RTE are available for download from NI.

Thanks Dennis. That makes sense. Only problem I now have is navigating my way round the NI site. I can find lots of references to version 6.1 but none for LVrte602.

I'll have another go and see if I can find it. Might just give up.

HI Jim,

do not give up. Go here: LabVIEW runtime engines.
You can reach this over Support >> Drivers and Updates >> All Versions ...

Waldemar,

thanks for that link. I would have thought that it would have been listed under the LabView section.

I've now managed to install 6.02 and the application works fine. Thanks to everyone who provided information.
