Labview 2011 Won't load !! :(

This is an issue that we've recently discovered with LabVIEW 2011, but we haven't had an opportunity to issue a patch or officially fix the issue. I'm in the process of publishing a KnowledgeBase article that helps to explain the issue, but as I wait for the publishing process to complete, I've included a copy of the text here. When the KB goes live, it should appear at this URL.

Title:

LabVIEW 2011 Fails to Launch on Computer with AMD FX Bulldozer CPUs

Problem:
After I install LabVIEW 2011 on a computer that includes a late 2011 AMD FX Series CPU ("Bulldozer"), LabVIEW fails to start, and eventually closes with an out of memory error.  What can I do?

Solution:
Early in the LabVIEW load process, LabVIEW calls a DLL (niCPUlib.dll) that queries the CPU for low level information (e.g. # of cores and cache size). This DLL call will encounter an issue when querying the status of AMD FX Series CPU's.

The niCPUlib.dll included with LabVIEW 2011 causes an infinite loop when executed on a computer that contains these processors. This infinite loop allocates memory, so LabVIEW eventually crashes with an out of memory error.

No errors occur during the install process and other programs such as Measurement & Automation Explorer will run properly.

A temporary fix is to replace the niCPUinfo.dll in <LabVIEW>\resource\ and in <Program Files>\National Instruments\Shared with the appropriate attached DLL.
This issue is documented within LabVIEW R&D as CAR #333463.
I hope this helps!

I haved applied SP1 and SP1f1 and still fails. It starts loading, the last message is Initialazing menus... but after few minutes the whole computer freezes.

I also have FX-6100 six core CPU. This is annoying. I have installed the software in other computers and no problems.

What else can I do?

I just found out the niCPULib.dll had to be copied also into <Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2011\resource\> .

If NI released a Sevice Pack addressing the problem why they did not do the job properly?

Hey RickyCan,

I apologize for the difficulties you had getting LabVIEW to work properly. I'm surprised to hear you're still having trouble; we haven't run into this particular issue too often since the release of Service Pack 1. Thanks for letting us know, because we definitely like to know about problems people are having so they can be resolved in future patches or versions of LabVIEW.

Just to clarify, is LabVIEW working correctly for you at this point, or do you still need assistance with the freezing issue?

Thanks,
