This may have been answered somewhere but I haven't been able to put in a suitable search string to find it.
I recently installed Labview 8.6 with DSC on my computer that had Labview 7.1 DSC on it. It overwrote the 7.1 Tag Monitor with the Shared Variable Monitor. Some of our other computers are still using LV 7.1 DSC and now when I remotely try to monitor some of their tags, I get a URL resolve failure. The 8.6 Shared Variable Monitor see the computer name and all of its tags but its put extra quotes on the tags name. I think that's the problem but I don't know how to fix it. Instead of the tag looking like 'Alarm.MotionStop.FB' on the list, it looks like '''Alarm.MotionStop.FB'''. On another computer, before I installed 8.6, I copied the 7.1 Tag Monitor directory as a backup but after installing 8.6 DSC, running the old 7.1 tag monitor behaves the same way - too many quotes, so I'm guessing 8.6 DSC overwrote some of 7.1 DSC monitor settings somewhere else. Are they somehow compatible with each other or is it not possible to monitor old 7.1 tags at all?

Hi TS9,
I did some asking around for you and, from what I've gathered, the way variables were set up in LV 7.1 DSC was totally different from the way they are set up in 8.2 through 8.6. I would recommend calling us at 866.ASK.MY.NI and your designated salesperson might be able to send you a copy of LV 7.1 if you need to simply monitor those tags. You could also have the other computer upgraded to at least 8.2, although 8.6 would be ideal.
Please let us know if you have further questions or if/how you solve your problem.

Thanks for the reply.
I figured that they may be different enough not to be compatible with each other, but I was hoping that they could coexist on the same computer, at least the tag monitors on my development computer that doesn't actually run the machines.
Do I have to remove 8.6 DSC to have 7.1 DSC tag monitor work again? 7.1 DSC tag configuration still works. I haven't actually tried to launch the 7.1 DSC engine. I have the 7.1 DSC CDs so I tried to repair it after renaming the shared Tag Monitor directory (so it would reinstall it) but although it installed the DSC 7.1 tag monitor, it didn't work, so there's something else. It didn't reinstall the Citadel database or Logos because it detected higher versions of them.
As far as upgrading the machine computers to 8.x, we will be doing that eventually but its going to take some time so I was hoping to still have a way of monitoring the tags.

Hi TS9,
The limiting factor in your installation procedure will be the order in which LabVIEW versions should be installed. You should always install older versions of LabVIEW first, then their modules, then their drivers. Then you should install newer versions, their modules, and finally their drivers. That means you will likely have to wipe 8.6 and 8.6 DSC off of your machine if you want to have 7.1 on there. Do you have another computer you could use for that?
