Labview PDA deployment required for development?

Do I need PDA Deployments for just development on my PDA (before distribution)?  I assume that I do not, but I thought I would ask it anyways, just to make sure.  Thanks.

Greycat,

No.  You don't need to have deployment licenses for development.  As long as you have your PDA connected to the development machine, you don't.  However, the way I understand it is that when you go to sell/deploy a program, then you will need to have a deployment license for each PDA.

I hope that this helps,

This applies to PDA running windows mobile 5.0 as well?  So what you are saying is that if I wanted to test it out in the field (the field outside my window)  I would not be able to (I'll be using Bluetooth communications with a custom instrument)?  It must be attached to the Development machine?  Hmmm ... they should supply the Development Module with one deployment so testing in different environments would be possible.

Greycat,

I may have mislead you.  You don't have to keep the PDA connected to your PC.  You just have to load the program to the PDA from the development system (the way I understand it).  If you load it to another PDA from another PC, that takes a deployment license.  I am a bit fuzzy on whether the deployment license is per PDA or per sync PC.  I think it is per PDA but I am not sure how it would be enforced.

This could all be wrong, of course, so if someone from NI would chime in, that would be great.

Hope that this helps,
Bob Yong

Hello!

I'm happy to help clarify things. You get 1 deployment license with the PDA module so that you can do all development and testing (on one PDA) with just the PDA module. A deployment is defined simply as downloading your application to a PDA; it makes no difference whether the PDA is docked or not. After you develop your application, if you want to distribute it to more than one PDA, then you will need to buy additional deployment licenses. For more information, this question is addressed in this online Knowledgebase. Hope this clears things up!

OK, I guess I was partly wrong.  It is entirely per PDA, not per PC/PDA.  Thanks for the clarification!

Thanks,
