Labview help menu

Hi,

I am not able to search the labview help Menu ( CNTRL + ? ) under the HELP drop down. When I press it, nothing happens. I tried re-installing Labview completely and it did not make any difference. I am using Labview 8.2

Thanks,

Hi Bira_PXI,

Thanks for posting on the discussion forums.  This is a very interesting problem, I just want to double check, when you want to the LabVIEW Help to open, you press Ctrl+Shift+? right?  If you just press the Ctrl+? button then it will only make the front panel or block diagram the size of the screen.  I hope this helps out.

Hello Michael,

I tried CNTRL+Shift+? and nothing happens.. The Help dialog doesnt open up. I even tried re-installing Labview, but that didnt help either. So now I have to manually look for each ICONs help on NI's website.

Thanks,

Hi,

I was wondering if you ever discovered the answer to this. I'm having the same problem with LabView 8.2.1 on Linux. I can the the contextual help to come up, but that's it. I don't get any errors, just nothing happens. I'm new to LabView, so I'm not even sure what's supposed to come up, but I assumed some sort of window would appear that would allow me to search help/reference pages. At the moment I have to go to another computer with a network connection to go to NI's website.

Hi Jon,

No, I havent found a solution yet.  I have tried re- installling Labview, but that did not solve the problem. I am looking up all the icons on the NI website too, which is a pain.

If you want to launch the "Search the LabVIEW Help..." option, it is "Ctrl + ?" key combo, meaning you ve to press "Ctrl + Shift + /" key combo. This is so because the "?" key is an uppercase, so you must press "Shift + /" to invoke the "?" key.

Hope this helps...

Hi All

I think its not the problem of LabVIEW.

Check whether ur operating system help is working fine or not?

Problem may be with ur windows help or something.

just try once?

Thanks &Regards

Kiran

Hi,

None of the "help" key strokes work either. And this is under Linux. I was actually wondering if LabView was trying to bring up a browser that I didn't have installed (i.e. LabView tries to execute a binary called "netscape" and all I have installed is "firefox").  I also brought up Labview from the command line in hopes of seeing some error message concerning the help function, but all is silent on stderr/stdout.

Hi Jon,
Did you try browsing to the directory where LabVIEW is installed and just attempt to open the help file without going through LabVIEW? The help file in Linux for LabVIEW is just an html file, and sometimes if html files are not registered with a default application in the kernel, LabVIEW will not be able to open the file, and there will not be error thrown.  LabVIEW opens the help file with whatever browser that's the default.
Let me know what you find out there.  Thanks!
