Labview reboots PC!

Greetings,

I'm using an SCXI chasis with LabView running on a Dell PC. Occasionally,
the PC will spontaneously reboot, apparently casued by the SCXI chasis or
the SCXI-1200 DAQ card. Has anyone else experienced this extremely annoying
problem?

I don't think it is possible for LV to reboot the computer, but if the
OS or
a driver gets confused, or a couple memory pokes go the wrong place, that
might be the end effect.

You don't mention what OS, what drivers, or even what version of LV you
are using.
Collect that information and compare it to the latest or recommended versions.
Install MS patches if they seem appropriate and see if the latest DAQ driver,
and possibly other drivers, makes an improvement.

Yes, the information I gave was rather sparse. Here's more:

We're using Win95, LabView v5.1(I think we started with LV 4 and evolved) ,
NIDAQ v6.1 drivers.

For hardware we have an SCXI-1001chasis populated with the following cards:
SCXI-1200, SCXI-1100, SCXI-1124 (x 2), SCXI-1162, and SCXI-1163R.

The feeling I get is that the PC's parallel port is getting overwhelmed
somehow. The only settings the Dell BIOS has available for the port are
PS/2 or Centronics (bidirectional or unidirectional), no EPP features at
all. I have selected the PS/2 settings.

Also, if I turn the SCXI chasis on while LV is running the PC it's connected
to will reboot.

Any info you might provide will be greatly appreciated.

Ok, Blake,
I'm not trying to be funny, but I gather it is a DELL computer? What processor?
What memory does it have? Is the SCXI plugged in to a PC DAQ card? Which one?
How big is your application? Did the chassis check out on "test" in the NIDAQ
software? Did it see all the modules being used?

Greetings yet again,

Thanks for your patience. I've looked at these systems so much that I take
the details for granted.

They are Dell computers. One system is an Optiplex GX1running at 266 MHz,
the other is an Optiplex G1 running at 350 MHz. They each have 64 Mb RAM.

We are using an SCXI-1200 DAQ card, connected directly to LPT1. All of the
tests in the NIDAQ software pass, and it recognizes all of the cards in the
chasis.

A check of the system resources in Windows with the application running
shows 84% free. The application is large, about 6.5 Mb.

Another key piece of info that I haven't mentioned...we run 5 of these
systems and only 2 seem to reboot.
