If you are talking to OPC servers , the LabVIEW DSC (Datalogging and Supervisory Control module)

is the ideal National Instruments solution.

As tst already mentioned OPC can be accessed using data sockets (which is the method that DSC uses under-the-hood).

I assume a module would cost extra money? If it can be done without it I'd try that.
Is it possible to read from a database too? I assume it is.

tbtb I just checked the example and I see that it can be done! Thanks a lot.

Are you sure about that? That doesn't sound right. I would expect that the tag engine might be based on the same technology as DS and shared variables, but I don't think it's exactly the same.

Tobias, The DSC toolkit does cost money and (if memory serves) also requires run-time licenses, so for a small number of OPC tags, you're probably better off with Datasocket.

As for database access, NI sells a toolkit which uses ADO behind the scenes. There are also several toolkits available freely on the web, most of which use ADO as well (you can try searching for LabSQL or ADO).

If you search the LAVA forums, I believe you can also find a MySQL implementation which uses a DLL and which should be cross platform.
