Laptop with Labview to USB to I2C

Hi,

Newbie.  I *think* I want Labview software running on  a laptop, with no NI hardware,. A serial or USB port on the laptop would feed a serial (or USB) to the  I2C or SPI  port on a capacitive sensing IC (Analog's AD7142).  NI software would initialize many registers on the Analog chip, and then read 14 16-bit values from the chip, at 400 samples/sec or less. Then format and display these values on the laptop screen.

Does this make sense? Which Labview version? Any hints on serial vs. USB, I2C vs. SPI, what conversion box?

...L

Doesn't really matter which version of LabVIEW you use. I2C vs SPI - that's going to depend on the device you're trying to control. I2C/SPI interfaces: NI makes one, though in my opinion it's overpriced. Other options are available. Ones that I've used:
Aardvark from TotalPhase. It's USB and comes with LabVIEW drivers.
CalBay. It's parallel port based and also comes with LabVIEW drivers.

Hi,

Do you have some sample code that you can show to me on how to get this I2c adaptor working?

Thanks
Ed
