License Issue for Labview

All of a sudden we are getting a message when starting Labview that "A temporary license has been granted based on a change in hardware on this computer...".

No changes were made. Do we click on Activate to get rid of this issue? Why has this come up after quite a bit of time?

Please note that this PC is running it's own copy of Labview...and it is running in Thailand, while I am in the US.

A license is based on the cumputer ID which is based on different hardware.

If e.g. someone changed the harddrive, the computer ID is different and the Activation Code does not fit anymore.

So LV runs in 30 day eval mode.

You simple have to reactivat the license with the new computer ID

As well, if the MAC address changes for some reason it could be the same situation. But again, simply re-activate and it should be ok.

We recently discovered a similar problem. The problem arises from the fact that the computerID changes dependend from the boot configuration. We get different computer IDs when booting a PXI8176 with a USB DVD drive attached or not. Working with NI CER support we found that in one case the computerID is generated by using the MAC and otherwise using the harddrive serial number.

I too found this error this morning (18 Jan 2010) and have not altered anything previous to this message appearing, so my IP address etc. remains as it was before.

Bit of a bugger this, as my serial number is in Singapore (I have my M62****** code with me at the moment though) so I'm a little nervous of going about any reactivation as yet!

Hi fios,

Is it a laptop? Are you enabling and disabling the wireless connection?

Good morning Jeff,

Yeah it's a laptop, and I hardly ever use the wireless connection unless I'm in the UK, and only on the rare occasion!

The license thing only just started yesterday - with no changes made to anything - that's the odd part!

If the wireless device was on when you first activated, then now is off (or vice versa), this may be the reason for the deactivation.
