MAX crashed XP system

While trying to configure a PXI-4070 as a traditional DAQ channel using the MAX wizard (new PXI system w/ factory installed XP, LV, hardware), the entire system crashed (black screen) as soon as I hit the button to commit the changes. After rebooting, I could not start MAX w/o a fatal error. I found and deleted all MAX configuration files dated today, losing my edits, before I could get MAX back up. Can a 4070 be used as a traditional DAQ task? It was shown as available to pick in the wizard. This was a HARD crash, and I lost a day's worth of work.

Hello BradW,

This is a known issue that is mentioned in the "known issues" section of the most recent NI-DMM readme file. (If you have NI-DMM installed you can find it at Start, Programs, National Instruments, NI-DMM, Documentation.)

"The NI 4070 can be programmed only with NI-DMM. NI-DAQ function calls and DAQ virtual channels are not supported by the NI 4070. Using NI-DAQ with the NI 4070 can cause an error that requires a system reboot."

The 4070 does not support using the NI-DAQ function calls and since DAQ virtual channels depend on these, you will get the same result when attempting to use a virtual channel.

Really, the 4070 should not even show up in the list of devices that a virtual channel can be assigned to. We expect this to be fixed in a f
uture version of the software.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Understood. I have to comment that this is serious enough that it should be made more plain and should be fixed ASAP. I reiterate that until I found and deleted all new files (not really knowing what I was deleting...just assumed all data files in the MAX/DATA subdirectory were configuration related) the crash rendered MAX unusable. The 4070 is a valuable piece of hardware and is heavily advertised. It should be ready for prime time.

I see. I will notify the person in charge of this. Also, I will add this to the information we have about this issue. That should help bring more attention to this. Thank you for your post!
