MAX doesn't find the serial Interface on my laptop. VISA error code: -1073807360

The serial interface is available in the device manager. MAX Version 2.0.3.17. NI-VISA Version 2.5.
Win2000.
An update from 2.5 to 2.6.1 failed. I can not deinstall the version 2.5.

I'm not sure why you can't uninstall 2.5. But the version of NI-VISA you want to upgrade to is 3.1. We've fixed a lot of serial bugs in each release, and gotten rid of a lot of incorrect VI_ERROR_SYSTEM_ERROR return values (some are fixed, others are changed to more logical error codes).

If you continue to have upgrade and/or uninstall problems, our installer guru suggests the following:

Go to Add/Remove Programs, select NI-VISA 2.5, and try Repair and then Uninstall. After it is uninstalled, then you should try upgrading to 3.1.

For most folks reading this, these steps aren't necessary. Somehow your system got into an odd state, and hopefully the Repair should bring it back into a stable state.
