Hi B,
MAX installs with any National Instruments Device Driver. You may want to try uninstalling the NI-DAQmx driver and re-installing the latest version of the driver from here.
Additionally you may want to try the troubleshooting steps in this Knowledge Base article.
Are you logging on to the computer with administrative priviledges?

We met the same issue, just cannot start MAX, our version is 4.0.
