Hi.
I have an instrument which i want to control through GPIB interface.
The instrument is Wavetek's arbritraty function generator model 301.
I have already downloaded and installed the drivers for this instrument mode.
I want to control this instrument through My PXI system having embedded controller NI PXI-8105.
The controller itself have GPIB connector to which I am connecting the Fgen instrument. SO the GPIB address would be 0.
Now in MAX, under the "devices and interfaces" it is showing GPIB0(PCI-GPIB).:manhappy:
When i am pressing the "Scan for instrument" button then it is showing that error has occured and no instrument is listed however i have Connecte the Fgen and supplied it properly.
It is not giving any detail about the error.
NI 488.2 device driver is also installed in the PXI.
In the Function generator there is one option of selecting Logical address of Device. which is corrently set to 2. I tried with changing it to 0 also but it did not work.
Can this be the problem with Instrument itself ???
Solved! Go to Solution.

Certainly don't set the address to be the same as the controller.
You say you get an error but do not provide any information on what the error message/code is. You should not make everyone try to guess. This is basic information that you have to provide.

As i have said again, it showing that "Error has occured during Scanning for instrument"..... it is not able to scan the instrument.
That's all ..!!
It is showing nothing more.... if you want then I can Send the picture of that error. I don't want to confusing anyone regarding error.. but the error is confusing me without giving any clue to reason of error.

Yes, post the picture of the error message.
Do you have another instrument that you can connect and see if it is detected. Do you have another system where you can connect the instrument that fails? Have you verified that the instrument is configured for GPIB communication Some instruments require this and some do not. Good to check.
You can also turn on NI-spy and capture the sequence of GPIB commands. You can attach your NI-spy capture.

Hi, Dennis...
No need of uploding picture of error message..
Today I got my GPIB instrument, don't know how.
Probably following can be the reason..
Yesterday, initially when the instrument was not detected, i thought and got a solution that NI 488.2 was not installed on that system. (In referance to reason of that NI 488.2 not being installed I had posted a message before saying that " could not install NI 488.2 on PXI"--- It was rolling back, I had also placed Pictures of that installation. You can see that Post)
Then I tried to installed the NI 488.2 (yesterday again) but failed with same error. After 2 trials It was installed successfully, But could not fund the reason for that..(YOu can help me if you find the reason for that.... See the Error in installing NI 488.2 in PXI system)
After installing the NI 488.2, I again tried for finding my GPIB instrument. but got the same error. Here It should be noted that I had not restarted my computer after installation of NI 488.2.
I think this must be the reason for not detecting the instrument yesterday.....
By the way, Thanks for helping me in this and other issues......
God is also with me.
Thanks again..
