MAX reports "Cannot connect to the Database"

When using MAX 4.1 all items on the tree menu do not work.  Expanding any item will result in the error message "Cannot connect to the database."  Re-installing MAX does not help.  I can not find any information on this error on the web and any suggestions would be appreciated.

I found this http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/B9107A7F281F9B408625720B0078E5A8 which goes into the reasons for this occuring in versions before 4.1. It blames firewalls such as McAfee and Symantec.

Might help ...
