MAX still shows NI-VISA 2.5 after installation of 2.6

I downloaded NI-VISA 2.6 from the NI Website. Unaware I should have removed NI-VISA 2.5 before installing 2.6 I went ahead with installation. I got several 1706 Errors. I called Tech Support, Service Request 420574. I was asked to check Add/Remove in the Control panel. NI-VISA 2.6 was there, 2.5 wasn't. Visa controls seemed to work in the diagram and front panel. But a check at MAX showed I was still using NI-VISA 2.5. It still showed this after removal of NI-VISA 2.6. How do I get NI VISA 2.5 removed to make way for 2.6?

Artist,

It turns out that the software list in MAX has to be refreshed to be updated, so if you have turned off the preference to refresh every time MAX is launched, then you will need to manually refresh to update the list. To refresh, simply do a "view >> refresh", or press "F5" as a shortcut.

Definately let me know if this turns out to be the problem. I have pitched the case that this refresh requirement for the software list is not intuitive, and therefore is a cause of problems. Personally, I learned this the hard way - uninstalling and reinstalling software because the software list in MAX did not show what I thought it should, when all along I just needed to refresh. If you (or anyone else reading this) ran into this, please post a response a
nd let me know about the experience.

"View | Refresh" in the menu worked. I now show I have NI Visa 2.6.0. Upon invocation of MAX there is the diaolog box that opens asking if I want Max to search for new devices only when I refresh the configuration tree, or everytime I launch MAX. I think of a "device" as being a hardware device, not a software installation.
