Measurement and Automation Explorer error 0xBFFF800B

I'm having the same issue as the previous poster - I had IMAQ 2.6.1 and installed 3.1.1 over it. We have a 1422 and a 1428 in this machine (XP SP2) and neither card allows me to select one of the camera files that previously worked with 2.6.1. (I get the same error message)

I hope there's some other option instead of installing everything over again.

Hello,

It is possible that the IMAQ 3.1.1 version did not properly overwrite all of the camera file information. The structure of camera files changed between IMAQ 2.6 and 3.1. This could be the cause of the problem. I would suggest uninstalling your existing IMAQ version, deleting the IMAQ file structure, and then reinstalling the driver. You should not have to uninstall Measurement and Automation Explorer or any of your other NI software.

I don't know that that's the cause, as this error occurs even when changing to new camera files that ship with 3.1.1 (for example, the default camera file is Cohu 5200 or something; selecting the other Cohu camera link camera file leads to the same error.)

I've been in contact with NI tech support - we're trying to figure out what's going on. I'll be sure to post here if we ever deduce an easy solution.

That sounds exactly like the problem I had -- the application crashed no matter what camera file I selected. Uninstalling all NI software, deleting the file hierarchy, removing the framegrabber and then reinstalling everything fixed the problem.

Oh, this just makes my day. 🙂 Same error number using the IEEE1394 IMAQ v2.0 software.

The strange thing is that everything was working at my desk a few weeks ago. Same cameras, same cables, no upgrades installed in between. I moved my laptop down to the machine things are being installed on and couldn't talk to any of the cameras. Okay, I brought down my firewire hub and hooked up to one of the cameras that way. No joy.

I brought one down that had been on my desk. No joy. Fired up MAX. Get the above error number. I read this thread, sighed, uninstalled and re-installed. Same error. To top off my day, when I try to run my VB.Net application, the activation won't connect, so it won't run at all.

Please, can someone help with a really bad day?

Hello Jack,

When do you receive the error?  The other posts mentioned that the error occurs when changing the camera file.  This is not usually done for 1394 cameras after the initial configuration.

I have seen this error in the past when the software was installed with non-admin rights or if the current user does not have at least Power User rights.  Do you have admin rights on the PCs?  Was the software installed with admin rights?  I doubt this is the issue, but thought it was worth asking.

When you uninstalled/reinstalled the NI software, did you delete the leftover directory/file contents?  The previous issue was only fixed after deleting the remaining IMAQ contents after uninstalling.

As for the activation issue...since the 2.0 version of NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 requires activation, you will have to re-activate after uninstalling and reinstalling.

Hi, Jesse.

I get the error in MAX when I click on a camera to select it. Get the hourglass for 10-15 seconds and then the error number.

Installed with admin rights. It used to work. It was fine at my desk as of about a month ago. I hadn't hooked up to any of the cameras since then. When I tried yesterday, no joy.

Yeah, I nuked the NI directory. Tried it twice and still didn't work.

I got the activation worked out. Found the emails with the activation codes from earlier. 🙂

When I run within my VB.Net application, I get an error on the OpenCamera2 function that says it couldn't find a camera. Error number -1074364389.

Thanks.

- Jack

Hello Jack,

When you disconnect your camera, do you use the "Safely Remove Hardware" utility in Windows?  Are you using Windows XP?  What camera are you working with?

In the past, I have encountered problems where the driver association in Windows caused similar errors.  Even after unplugging the camera and uninstalling all of the software, Windows will maintain information about the camera and driver.  The most thorough solution is to reformat the computer, but this is also the least desired solution.  Another method I have used is to delete associations in the Windows registry.

I do not advise manually editing the Windows registry unless it is absolutely necessary.  Please use extreme caution, as your system could become unstable if the wrong keys are edited/deleted.  First, unplug the camera from the system using the "Safely Remove Hardware" utility.  Next, open the registry editor by clicking Start>>Run and typing "regedit" (without the quotes).  Browse to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\1394".  The registry keys in this folder are specific to the 1394 devices installed on your system.  If you are certain that the camera is unplugged, then it should be safe to remove the key specific to the camera.  In the attached screenshot, I have only one 1394 device installed, a Sony camera.  To clear the association with my camera, I would delete the folder named "SONY&CCM-DS250_1.07."  Before I can delete the folder, I have to right-click on it and change the permissions to "Full Control."  Once deleted, you can close the Registry Editor.

Before plugging the camera back in, you should also delete the contents of the Data folder located at "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-IMAQ for IEEE-1394\Data".  This will remove the camera files that the IMAQ driver created.  When you plug your camera back in, it should be very similar to when you first installed it.  You will need to open MAX and change the driver to the "NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 IIDC Digital Camera" driver.

Again, please use extreme caution when editing the registry.  If you would like, you can create a service request and call in for support.  One of our IMAQ supporters can assist you with this process.  Otherwise, let me know if this helps out.

Best Regards,
