You get this error if you try to open a VISA session to a serial port that has an existing open session from any application, including Hyperterminal or Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). This is not a VISA limitation, but a characteristic of serial ports; you cannot open more than one session to the same serial port. The solution is to determine what other application or VI is already accessing the port and ensure that the program terminates or closes its reference before you attempt to use the port again. I'm not sure if Agilis has anything to do with this.

You could try the following step by step process to close an open session to a port:
  1. Put a "VISA Close" VI on a new block diagram.
  2. Right-click on the "VISA Resource Name" input, and create a constant.
  3. Select the serial port you wish to close, and run the VI.
Have a look at the following knowledge base article as well:
Why Do I Get Error 37 When Using Serial Compatibility VIs or Error -1073807246 Using VISA VIs?

I'm sorry I ignored your other post. Try the whole thing after you shutdown the Agilis connected controller. Only have the LabVIEW program open.

I hope you mean that the controller software is off and not the controller itself!

You have way to many windows up on that screen and I don't know what is active or not. Close the controller software, MAX, and LabVIEW. Open one program (i.e. the driver you got from the vendor) and see if you get that error. If you do, close that program and open Hyperterminal and see if you get an error connecting. If you do, the controller program from the vendor is probably still running.

Yes the controller software is off. The LabVIEW programm from vendor is running as you can see on attachment. (PC see the usb connection and MAX also). The command from LabVIEW does not correspond to my device.

What if you close down the LabVIEW program and just open up MAX. Now, open the VISA test panel. Are you able to talk to the device? If that doesn't work, close it down and try Hyperterminal. Let me know if that works.

I forgot say that I can not find hyperterminal - I know that you send me the path where it should be but there isn't.
