Menu Item

I have used the run-time menu in my vi. And my question is : Is there anyway to enable Keyboard stroke to activate the Menu Item.
For example, the Menu Item name.. File, I want to activate it by keyboard key with character F or ALT + F.
I even need to know how to get an underscore for the Alphabet which I need to activate through keyboard.
(This question had been proposed before , but there is no clear answer. )

Are you using windows?

In this case you place an underscore to associate a shortcut.

Quote from the online help (Look for "Customizing menus statically" for more details) :

"Windows: You can enter an underscore (_) before a letter you want to be associated with the key for that menu. When you associate a letter with the key, the user can press the key and that key to access the menu."
