Missing Excel menus in Report Generation function palete

Hello all,

I have loaded (and relaoded) the report generation toolkit into Labview.  What happens is that I only get the options for selecting MS word vi's in the report generation palete (listed under the  Programming menu).  How do I get the Excel VI's to show up in this palete?  I realize that there is probably some sort of *.mnu file that I need to insert into the menu folder...does anybody know where I can find this file?  I have tried dropping the excel mnu files (from the report generation install disk) into the menu folder but this dosen't work.  Any other ideas or suggestions?

Note the folder path I am using: C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\categories\Programming\_NI Report

Thanks,

What version of the Report Generation Toolkit are you using?  Version 1.1 and earlier are not compatible with LabVIEW 8.x, particularly as far as the palettes are concerned.  I believe you can get RGT 1.1.1 from the Upgrade Advisor.  It is a free upgrade for RGT 1.1 users, and it is fully compatible with LabVIEW 8.x.

But if you are already using RGT 1.1.1, I really don't know what the problem could be.  In order to see the Excel subpalette under the Report Generation palette, the following files need to be present:

C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\vi.lib\addons\_office\excel.llb
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\vi.lib\addons\_office\_exclsub.llb
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\Categories\Programming\plat-nireport.mnu
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\default\excel.mnu
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\default\exceladv.mnu
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\default\excelfrm.mnu
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\default\excelgen.mnu
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\default\excelpic.mnu
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\default\excmacro.mnu

Make sure all these files are present.  Note that I have not tried installing RGT to a non-default LabVIEW installation (in your case, the "Program Files" folder is not used).  I assume things should work just the same, but I am currently trying this out on my test machine.  I'll let you know if I discover any problems.  Meanwhile, let me know if my suggestions are useful.

Ok, I just installed LabVIEW 8.2 to the C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2 folder on my test machine.  I also installed RGT 1.1.1 to this same folder (the RGT 1.1.1 installer figured out the correct location).  The test machine already had Office 2003 installed.  When I ran LabVIEW 8.2, I saw the Excel palettes (and all the rest of the RGT palettes) just fine, and VIs dropped from them just fine as well, and the Excel VIs ran fine, too.  So other than the possibility that you're using an older version of RGT, I really don't know what the problem could be.

Let me know if any other details arise,

I had this same prob when I upgraded to LV 8x before I got my release cd's and tried installing the toolkits that I used in 7x and got the same results when I clicked on the RGT except mine did not show them for word either. When I got my CD's I ugraded the toolkit and all was fine. I would say that a version conflict is all this is.

Isn't the 1.1 just a patch release. this should be available for download somewhere I would think.

Do you mean 1.0.1? If so I have RGT 1.0.1 and have managed to get it going with 8.2.

I followed this procedure

1. Do this http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/eacb8d9853f5c20086256ea10041d5b7 first.

2. Follow the instructions in the attached text file to fix you palettes. I extracted this from an email from NI UK support.

Darren is right, its not compatible but all the problems I have encountered are fixable (so far). Mostly the wiring gets muddled but you should be able to see what goes where. A mass compile will tell you whats broken.

Nothing ventured nothing gained.

David,

Thanks for the reply...I basically followed your steps and I was able to insert the Excel palete into the NI report subpalete.  The only mod i made your your directions is that I had to pick each existing excel mnu file and insert into tthe palete...

Otherwise it looks like it works...I will report back if I run into toher problems...

Thanks all for your help...

Hi Radman,

As I mentioned in my first post, the RGT 1.1.1 upgrade should be free if you already have RGT 1.1.  If the Upgrade Advisor says otherwise, I recommend you contact your NI sales representative to get them to send you a copy of RGT 1.1.1.  Unfortunately, there is no web download for RGT 1.1.1.

Let me know if you have any other issues,
