Missing Items in MAX Configuration Tree

I'm trying to get some strin gage readings using the LabVIEW software. When I try to add the DAQ devie through the Measurement and Automation Explorer, the configuration tree to the left is missing a lot of items. Specifically, I cannot manage my devices and instruments because that item is not there.

Please help.

OK, let's start with the stupid questions...

1) Did you install the board in the PC?

2) Did it catch on fire when you did?

3) Did the magic smoke escape from the chips on the card?

Now for the slightly more intelligent questions...

1) Are there any other devices connected to your PC?

2) Do they show up?

Just trying to get the obvious stuff out of the way first.

Now for the semi-intelligent questions:

1) What board are you trying to install?

2) What version of MAX and DAQmx do you have installed?

3) Do you have Traditional DAQ installed?

Questions 1, 2, and 3:  No

Question 4:  No

I am trying to install a National Instruments daq board: NI USB 6009 via a wheatstone bridge.  I am using LabView 8.5 version.  I have not used LabView before so I am trying to follow the instructions on the NI website to acquire data.  The instructions recommend that I should manage my devices and interfaces from the tree on the left.  But I can't find that tab on the Max.  What should I do?

Ah, ookkayyy...

First thing you have to do is install it.  Now that you have Max installed, this just means hooking it up to your PC via USB.  (I am assuming based on your answers to my earlier questions that it isn't hooked up yet).  After you hook it up, you *should* be able to see it.

Keep me posted...

It sounds like MAX is installed but there are no hardware drivers. Install DAQmx.
