Move/backup VILogger 2.0.1 Data

How do I move data from one machine to another with VI Logger 2.0.1 Lite?

I have tried the methods described for previous versions of VI Logger (copy data directory, and optionally restore with rtask). Unfortunately I have had no luck with either method. If this is the correct method, could you please provide more detailed instructions, such as which files actually have to be copies between the two machines? What is the exact command line to use with rtask? If this is not the correct method then please fill me in!

It appears to me that the data is being stored in the MAX/data/config3.mxs file, but I have not been able to figure out how to load this file on another machine. I have not been sucessful in overwriting this file (with various other files in the same directory, and the VI Logger/vilogger.dat file) on the target machine either.

The help file provides no detail on how/where the data is stored, or what procedure should be used to backup data.

Any tips will be appreciated.

Hi Brad99,

Moving your data from one computer is unsupported, but it is possible.
You will first need to locate the directory that contains the database information, sounds like you have already done. This directory is usually located in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\VI Logger\data. If the data is not located there, you can find it in MAX by going to Tools»VI Logger»Configure Data Export Settings. The location of the database files should be listed under the location heading.

Once you have located the database directory, you can copy all of the files to the other computer.  They must be copied to the exact same location on the other computer for this to work. After these files have been copied, copy the config.mxs file located in the MAX directory (usually located in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MAX) to the MAX directory on the other computer. It is important to note that for this procedure to work, you must copy the files to the exact same location on the target computer.

The .mxs file contains the configuration settings for the environment in MAX, so copying this file to another computer overwrites those settings. This may lead to undesired results, and that is why this procedure is not officially supported. It is recommended that this is done on fresh installations of MAX, right before the system has been configured, so that the system can be properly configured once the data is imported.

Note: Make sure you look at the MAX.ini file located in the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MAX\Data folder to see which is the current configuration file. Normally it should be config.mxs. However, it could be different if there are multiple configuration files located in the folder, which sounds like the case with your config3.mxs file.

Let me know if this is what you are doing, or if this is helpful.  Thanks!
