As long as you install them as serial ports, you can communicate through them very easily with LabVIEW.
I seem to remember running into difficulties with the IrDA on a laptop previously, though I believe that my difficulties were because I was trying to use the IrDA for NRZ (or was it RZ??) serial protocol, instead of the usual IrDA protocol.
If you have trouble installing multiples, try going with a USB. As long as the USB version can install as normal serial ports, you are okay.
