Sometimes my laptop (Dell Lattitude CPx with NT 4, Service pack 6) hangs when I open a vi. It is not the same vi all times. After a couple of rebooting and/or mass compiling, it starts working again. I have Labview (PDS) version 6..02 and DSC 6.0.2 installed.
Does the laptop hang only when opening DSC VI's? If you open a small, simple VI does it hang?
LabVIEW may be trying to load drivers, locate DLL's, etc when it appears to be hung. If you wait a while after loading the VI does control come back to LabVIEW?
It hangs on even simple vis such as a serial port initialization vi, not using any DSC. Yes, I tried leaving it for a while, it doesn't come back. Today, I defragged my hard disk and rebooted twice before I could get back to normal operation.
We are going to need some more information to help you. Does one VI always make your computer hang? If so, does it make another computer hang? Are these VIs doing something special? Does LV hang or does the whole OS hang? Do you get any error messages? Are other programs running in the background? Is LV looking for subVIs when it hangs? Has this always happend? Does NT do anything strange?
