NI-Industrial Communications for DeviceNet and LabVIEW Compatibility

Solved!
Go to solution

I am currently tasked with updating a facility. The current facility utilizes the old unsupported PCI-DNET cards and the older DeviceNet drivers. Upon updating, the card will need to be replaced with the current card, PCI-8532, and the drivers updated to the new NI Industrial Communications for DeviceNet... While looking at the Drivers I noticed that Windows 7 is supported in what seems like 32 and 64 bit versions: http://www.ni.com/product-documentation/53530/en/

However, while looking at the information for LabVIEW integration with the NI Industrial Communications for DeviceNet drivers I am unsure if 64 bit LabVIEW is in fact supported: https://www.ni.com/en/support/documentation/compatibility/17/ni-industrial-communications-for-device....

Also, the help document always references 32 bit LabVIEW: https://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/375166c.html

Could anyone please provide some clarity: do the new DeviceNet drivers support 64 bit LabVIEW installation?

Thank you for your time and assistance,

You certainly did your homework.  Although the drivers will install into the operating systems listed, the only drivers available for LabVIEW are for LV 32-bit.

That being said, usually LV 32-bit is recommended for ALL operating systems, regardless of 32 or 64 bit flavors, unless you absolutely need the extra memory access that LV 64-bit gives you.  The biggest reason is exactly what you see here - that there are much more things available for LV 32-bit than LV 64-bit.
