Hello the forum,
in a test bench used to validate 3 prototypes at the same times we installed three CAN communication cards NI PCI-8512/2 (two ports per card and par prototype, six in total). Aliases from "CAN1" to "CAN6" had automatically assigned by NI MAX during the first PC start-up. We didn't modify them because they matched our requirements, so the aliases configuration was as follows: CAN1-CAN2 -> card 1; CAN3-CAN4 -> card 2; CAN5-CAN6 -> card 3.
Today I discovered an unexplained change in the configuration that now is: CAN1-CAN2 -> card 3; CAN3-CAN4 -> card 2; CAN5-CAN6 -> card 1. So aliases were inverted between card 1 and 3. Is it possible that the aliases are automatically reassigned by NI-MAX causing such type of inversion?
Wanting to check the NI MAX configuration that I saved after the first PC start-up (the idea was to verify the cards serial numbers and the associated aliases), I discovered that the CAN communication cards are not present simply because they can not be selected during the export procedure. Is this behavior normal? Honestly I don't understand why the CAN communication cards don't appear...
Any help is welcome! Thanks in advance

I have the exact same problem. This has happened to me about 3 times where all the CAN channels switch places. Has this been fixed? I would really like to be able to export CAN card configuration from MAX and save it like for a DAQ card.

Hello,
apparently there's no way to export/import the CAN configuration as the CAN channels-aliases association is done automatically by MAX. The only thing you can do to at least take trace of this configuration is to create a technical report (see here for additional information).
